Happy Independence Day weekend! πŸ™‚

I wanted to share about a “secret weapon” of mine that I have practiced/used for sometime now – journaling a gratitude practice.

So, you may have heard the “buzz” on gratitude these days, and also perhaps on journaling. Perhaps you have wondered, “what’s the big deal?”

Well, my question to you would be, “have you tried it?”

One of the universal maxims I really appreciate in life is “don’t knock it until you try it.” Why? Well, because until we experience it for ourselves, how can we truly understand? Sure, we can gather opinions from others around us, but we all are unique beings with unique reactions to the same things.

I have journaled since I was a pre-teen. As an adult, I’ve found it immensely insightful to stop and concentrate and write my thoughts down – and oftentimes, when I write some of these thoughts out, they seem incredibly ridiculous!
Journaling can reveal us to ourselves.

Whether we are growing in our own personal health, our relationships, our career, and more, adopting a journaling practice can shed immense light on the experiences we are encountering in our day-to-day lives.

So, where does gratitude come in?

Well, if you are anything like me, (which, I have had the tendency in the past to see beyond all the great things going on in my life and pinpoint the ONE thing I don’t like or want/need to improve, thus making me grumpy and irritable ..) documenting a few key things that we are GRATEFUL for in the morning and/or evening can provide immense benefit to our lives.

What we focus on, we create more of. Like a camera, what we focus on, develops.

So, how can we intentionally focus on – what are the things today that are going RIGHT, versus wrong? What have we done today that was good, versus the other things maybe we had intended to do, but didn’t?

Maybe you didn’t get your exercise in, but you practiced self control and didn’t have dessert or a second helping that you didn’t necessarily need. Maybe you did exercise but feel you could have done better. What can you celebrate? What are the WINS in your day?

Two great journal prompts that I began at the beginning of this year and followed for about 2 months was: “What are 5 things I am grateful for today?” in the morning, and “What were the wins for today?” in the evening.Β It made an immense difference – I encourage you to try it!

Have an incredible week!
