Meet Your Trainers

Mark “Kazie” Turner

[Fan Location]

Allo Hello! I’m Mark ‘Kazie’ Turner, an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. I grew up in gym surroundings in my youth competing in various sports such as basketball, football soccer, tennis, and track & field. After graduating from VCU, I continued playing in different recreational soccer leagues while jumping into the world of strength training that truly unlocked my potential. That passion led to curiosity in helping some of my former teammates improve their strength and stamina off the field which introduced me to personal training.

Once I realized that this was a possible career choice, I jumped in and found a new passion for helping others by improving strength through fitness and living lives they once thought were unobtainable. I’m a trainer that likes to get to know my clients on a personal level while pushing them toward PRs while jamming along the way. From powerlifting to strength training and a sprinkle of mobility, I’m a trainer that enjoys having fun while instructing you toward your goals.

Which certification do you have? NASM CPT

What got you into personal training? I have had a life-long love affair with moving my body and educating those around me how to do the same, however I never really thought of myself as a “fitness” person. This all changed in 2023 when two things happened simultaneously for me:

  • Thing 1. I discovered a deep love of weightlifting as cross-training for my performance art.
  • Thing 2. I was laid off from my long-term corporate office job.

As I scrambled to figure out how to navigate this sudden uncertainty, it occurred to me that what I am passionate about is helping people move, and move well, and personal training seemed like an excellent way to support myself while doing so.

What’s your background in? I’ve been a pole-dancer, aerialist and performing artist for the better part of a decade now, and I’ve been coaching pole and movement for more than half of that time. I strive to live up to the title of Movement Educator.

What differentiates you? My trajectory to this career has been so roundabout and off the beaten path, that my perspectives are inherently quite different than your average trainer. I am coming to personal training from a performing art world that is also an extreme sport (pole dance/aerial) which means I have a lot of experience guiding folks through things that truly feel impossible and helping them discover just how possible it can be to do hard things when you take the necessary baby steps.

How would you explain your training style? While I care deeply about proper form, the science of biomechanics, and safety, I am also passionate about Play and I strive to bring moments of embodied silliness into the practice of fitness. I focus a lot on mobility and stability, my passion lies in functional movement and navigating the world with as much ease as possible. I approach each person with radical empathy, I will meet you where you are each day and ask your body for its greatest safest effort. I believe that there is no reason we can’t try hard and have fun at the same time.

What do you do outside of work, in your free time? I am a person with too many interests and very little time. I love to be outside either roller-skating, or finding something to climb/dance on, or going to see live music. To relax I can be found reading sci-fi and fantasy books or playing games with my spouse while surrounded by our pets.

Cody Paul

[ Fan Location ]

Hello, my name is Cody and I have my personal trainer certification through ACSM. I acquired the certification while taking classes to earn my bachelors in exercise science at Salisbury University in Maryland. My true calling is to be a Physical therapist as I am in PT school currently at VCU however I see personal training and physical therapy as two sides of the same coin!

I believe that in personal training applying functional movements and ensuring balance between both half’s of the body is key to keeping people out of physical therapy (which is ideal to avoid if possible). I incorporate a lot of preventative measures to keep the bodies of my clients healthy and moving fluidly! In my free time I love to hang out outdoors including kayaking, hiking and fishing and camping!

Which certification do you have? Brookbush Institute

What got you into personal training? A few of my friends in recovery introduced fitness to me and it’s changed my life ever since that day.

What’s your background in? My background is more for people that are brand new to exercise, just trying to help gef to their goals, and strength training.

What differentiates you? What differentiates me is that I’m able to connect with the neurodivergent community, with people that struggle with serious mental health issues that I can relate to such as bad anxiety/depression.

How would you explain your training style? My training style is more one on one therapy/fitness based while having fun with my clients, enjoying what we have.

What do you do outside of work, in your free time? Outside of work, I LOVE running mid distances, boxing, and strength training. I also love to sing and enjoy music to the fullest.

Jalen Prather

[ Fan Location ]

I’ve always had a passion for sports and physical activity, so I naturally gravitated towards the gym as I got older and have been loving every second since. Being able to help people improve their health and lives as a job is meaningful to me.

I’ve had a variety of fitness experiences in my career, so I’ve been able to think outside the box and utilize my expertise in a number of ways whether that be weight loss/gain or simply restarting a fitness journey.

Jalen Prather Personal Trainer The Well

My program energy and enthusiasm creates an environment that clients can feel comfortable and open in. I want failing to be an option so the accomplishments and milestones can feel that much better.

I feel my training style is based around commitment and self-realization. I want to push my clients to feel the benefits of changing their lives for the better and actually want to continue improving their health down the road.

In my free time I run a dog boarding business with my girlfriend, so we are always at dog parks and going on walks with the pups 🙂

I am a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE)

I started using Personal Trainers about 15 years ago to prepare myself to climb Mount Rainier in Seattle. I trained for this journey for about 1 year.  It was during this training that I fell in love with Fitness and could feel the benefits it gave me. I wanted to share that passion and help others. As a Personal Trainer, I am passionate about helping my Clients achieve their Fitness Goals. I work with each Client to determine ways that Fitness can help them reach their individual goals and improve the quality of their lives.

Let’s get started!!

I am a retired IT Executive with over 30 years in the industry – with a focus on Data and Analytics. I am also a musician and enjoy playing music at local venues. Fitness has been a big part of my life experience and kept me prepared to face all of life’s challenges.

I believe that Fitness and Exercise are the key to being able to enjoy a full life of activities. Everyone is different and has their own unique goals. My focus is on the individual, developing a functional workout that will help them excel in their daily activities.

My training style is Functional Movement. I work with each client to develop a unique program for them that will allow them to achieve their individual goals – be it – better movement, weight loss or just overall fitness for daily activities.

I love to play music and travel to new places!
